I'm going to start with my Father's family.  My father, Dr. Evan L. Jones was born in Des Moines, Iowa, June 23, 1927 and died May 9, 1999.  After Grandma Esther Peterson Jones died (Sept. 9, 1989), dad made a comment on how he didn't understand why he could have aunts and uncles with a dad who was an only.  So, we talked.  I asked questions of him and my mom and we started digging through grandma's "treasurer boxes" of pictures and information. Mom finally produced a small diary from dad's grandfather, Thomas J. Jones. I then, had some information to start with. Below is a scan of the first of that diary.
